Why a phone app

A restaurant owner is rarely at a desk. You are at the market at six, behind the counter at noon and closing the till at ten.

BasilBook was born in a real restaurant, and the books were always kept between other jobs: a supplier invoice photographed on the way back from the market, a stock count done on the kitchen floor, the day's takings checked from the car. A laptop is the wrong tool for most of those moments. Your phone is already in your hand.

So from today, BasilBook for Android is on Google Play. It is not a cut-down companion: it is the console, built for a phone, talking to the same books.

Your day, from your phone

Almost everything you do in the web console, you can do in the app — and every entry still writes its own journal, exactly as it does on the web.

  • Takings and reconciliation — see today's sales, record a manual sale, and close the day's reconciliation session against the cash and bank money you actually received.
  • Purchases and expenses — enter a delivery as it arrives, log an expense, and see what you owe each vendor.
  • Stock counts and waste — walk the shelves with your phone, count, save a draft and post it when you are done; record waste with its reason as it happens.
  • Journal, payroll and attendance — read the ledger, run payroll and check attendance without opening a laptop.
  • Invoices, quotes and job cards — for service businesses and workshops: quote a customer, open a job, bill it and follow the payment.
  • Reports, analytics and Insights — your income statement, balance sheet and charts, plus the alerts Insights raises when something in your books changes.

Recipes, items, vendors, customers, staff, the chart of accounts, integrations and settings are all there too. On a tablet the app opens up into a sidebar and wider tables, so it works as well on the counter as in your hand.

Open a spreadsheet straight into BasilBook

A supplier sends a price list, your POS emails an export, your accountant shares a workbook — it usually lands on your phone first.

Open an Excel or CSV file from your email, chat or files app and choose BasilBook: the app opens it on its Import file screen and brings it into your workspace with the same importers as the web. No forwarding it to yourself, no waiting until you are back at a computer.

Made yours

The app follows the choices you already made on the web, and keeps the rules your team already works by.

  • Your dashboard — the widgets you arranged in the console appear on your phone in the same order, and you can show, hide and reorder them from the app.
  • English, French or Khmer — every screen is translated, Khmer is set in a font made for it, and the language you pick follows your account.
  • The same roles — an owner or manager can make changes; a member reads everything and changes nothing, exactly as in the console.

What it costs

The app is free to download, and it does not have plans of its own.

It works with the plan your workspace already has. On Free you get the app with everything Free includes; Professional features open in the app the moment your workspace is on Professional. Your plan is managed on the web, so there is nothing to buy inside the app — see pricing for what each plan includes.
